Flaming Timeline

The sun hits the ground again
like a basketball – it bounces
not east nor west, but forward and back
through time, which has trouble navigating
like people, walking backward all the time
like the sun: first maddening
then reddening, oops!  You’re blind again
so the lazy mind puts time in a line,
second after second, tomorrow like today,
sleep to work, TV to sleep
day after day til your wrinkles are frayed
and the only color on your calendar
is the colon doctor next Tuesday.
